As part of the UN's annual 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence, the Kerry Women's Centre in association with NEWKD are hosting a morning conference on Eliminating Violence Against Women And Girls. The conference is free of charge and will be of particular interest to women from across the community, students, practitioners, activists, media and policy makers.
The cafe style conference will provide a unique opportunity to increase awareness, promote advocacy and create a safe space for discussion on challenges and solutions.
The conference will combine presentations by keynote speakers with discussion and interaction throughout the morning. Speakers will include Mary McDermott, CEO of Safe Ireland and Adjunct Professor of Social Studies at UCC,Catherine Casey General Manager of Adapt Kerry Women's Refuge Tralee ,Garda Niamh Corkery and Dr Rosaleen McDonagh(playwright, poet and activist).
There will be information stalls from a variety of groups, crafts from the Ukranian Women's Group and a display of art work from the Kerry Women's Centre 'Women's History Project' and Women's Art Group, who have invited Dr Rosaleen McDonagh, the subject of one of the paintings to read one of her poems "I'm the Woman ".
